Suneet Verma is one of the most sought after designer of the bridal costumes in India. He says “A bride should dress like a princess when she is marrying a man she loves”. Suneet received the training in the costume designing from the American College of Fashion, London. Suneet caters a wide clientele covering Indians, NRIs and other people from the rest of the world. Previously he used to do 75% of his business from the bridal wear segment, now he has started to give more attention to the other segments also and tried to reduce his business in the bridal wear segment to 45%. Suneet claims that the bridal wear segment is very challenging for him and requires lot of input. Suneet is known to set the trends in the bridal wear segment.
His latest collection which was created for a recent tour was inspired by the late enigmatic painter Amrita Shergill and targeted towards the brides only. His six collections take you to the journey through the avenues of life of the late painter. To establish contact with the Suneet is a matter of patience but his agents based in London, Hong Kong and Dubai come handy to help you out.
To start working Suneet wants to know the community of the bride, the figure of would be bride and then comes the selection of the fabric and the colors etc. Next he tries to concentrate on the theme of the wedding if there is any. After that he comes out with the design sketches and suggestive choices of embroidery and the jewellery to be worn with the dress. Suneet claims many times he receives the request for designing the dress according to a particular film actress worn in a particular scene. His range starts from Rs. 60,000 and goes upward. Suneet also designs for the grooms but his business is 25% in this sector as the grooms also want to be at par with their counterparts.
He is a popular figure in the Middle East countries in this segment. He has done the dresses for the Al Sabah wedding and Elie Saab and Zohair Morad in the Lebanon where people want the dresses to be with large slits and more revealing.
There is no doubt that Suneet has been rightly declared ‘The largest consumer of crystals in India in the recent years’ by the Swarovski. Suneet says that “If somebody wants shine and glamour and the innovative use of crystals, then they should come to me, my creations are the fusion between the east and the west.
