This name does not require any introduction among the fashion buffs all round the globe. Ritu is India’s one of the leading and most talented
designers.
It was during the late 1960s that when India was undergoing changes like when plastics replaced mud, brass and silver, nylons had displaced the ancient heritage of cotton and silk. So, this way it was a time when not only traditions and modernity were at stake but it was also a confrontation of lifestyles and values.
So it was at this time when Ritu Kumar began her career with hand block printer, two tables in a small village near Kolkata, and then it was dedication of Ritu and her entire team that today they have progressed to produce some of the country’s most exquisite garments and accessories.
This great lady proved that if one has talent and creativity, the handmade products can turn out to be more demanding, attractive and profitable than those of the machine made. Her Indo-West fusion wear has all the trappings of block prints, embroidery and craft inputs on a western style.
Her achievements world wide include her work for India’s three beauty pageants actually winners – Lara Dutta(miss universe), Ruchi Malhotra, Manpreet Brar, to name a few who won the most outstanding evening gown, in international pageants, and not only this, but her designs have been worn and given pride by Late Princess Diana, and the likes which has added glitters to her victory. She has also launched her book ‘Costumes and Textiles of Royal India’ published by Christie’s, London, in 1999.
Ritu Kumar has opened a new flagship store in North America, it is located in The Mall at Oak Tree in Edison, New Jersey.
Ritu has been one of the favorite of many fashion buffs when it comes to wardrobes concerning swim wear, traditional Indian wear, or the formal evening or party gowns.

Now, on a more important note when it come to the bridal collection, there would be hardly a bride who would not want to be benefited from her designs. Its all because Ritu’s designs are so unique, with her creative ancient handicraft like those of zardozi, bandhani, chikan work etc. and these are all at last combined which end up into an absolutely stunning outfit, and stunning enough to surprise just anyone. And in order to get such wonderful combination in her designs there is no compromise as far as comfort is concerned and that is like a cherry on the cake. Her bridal collections are mostly crafted in naturally rich fabrics like silks, georgettes, crepes, tissues.
