Donna Karan, well known fashion designer belongs to a family which had its threads connected to the fashion world from the very beginning itself.
But that does not at all means that the challenges she had faced became easy, instead she made her job even more creative and unique in its own way that the challenges had to bow their heads in front of her and that’s what made her own and special place in this industry.

Donna Karan was born as Donna Ivy Faske on 2nd October, 1948, in Forest Hills, New York. Her interest in fashion was not all of a sudden instead it was in her since her childhood. It was only that her interest and her dreams got shape when her company DKNY ( Donna Karan New York) was launched. This is an International brand and has spread its magic every corner of the globe.
Donna’s mother was a model and her father was a tailor. She completed her graduation from Hewlett High School in 1966, then in the mentioned year she went to The New School for Design for two years.
Then she joined Anne Klein and later became the head designer of the Anne Klein designer team and retained her position till 1989. Then it was time that launched the Essentials line and her legendary seven easy pieces.
In 1970 she got married to Mark Karan and then later in the year 1985 she launched her own company DKNY.
The Success story
Though her work shows what kind of a dedicated and talented designer she is, but then why take chances because doubts may arise anytime and anywhere, so in order to eliminate those doubts here is a list of just a few awards that she has won:
• Karan won the Coty American Fashion Critics’ Award in 1977 and once again in 1982 (together with Louis Dell’Ollio for Anne Klein).
• She was also honored by Fashion Group International at its Night of Stars gala
• Then in 1984 she was inducted into the Coty Hall Of Fame.
• She was named as the Menswear designer of the year 1992 and women’s wear Designers of the year 1990 and 1996 by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Brand
Though the brand DKNY began with just the apparels but the popularity of the brand soon led to variations and expansion in the form of fragrances, eyewear, baby products, shoes, and other accessories.
The first flagship store of the brand was opened in New York. The design studio of the brand is maintained at Manhattan, New York.
Though she has a clientele that’s star studded, but still it has opened for the common man opportunity to avail the products.
